My brother’s dog puked and had diarrhoea last nite. When he brought her to the vet this morning, he told her she may die as she has gotten a virus. What kind of virus huh? Everything sounds so vague and uncertain now. All of us are indeed very worried about her now. *so sad*.
I have been busy going through various procedures for the new job, and with this new princess falling ill, I am going to be even busier than before. Now my heart aches that she is suffering, even though she has been with us for only 2.5 days.
Is anyone able to provide sound advice or let us know if your dog has had similar encounters in the past?
it might be pavo virus. it is quite common for the dogs to get tis virus if the farm/shop u’re buying from is not clean. symptoms might include diahorrea and vomitting. my cousin’s dog from ericsson pet farm had that and died. they didnt offer a replacement, only offer to pay 50% for her next dog. they closed the whole shop down to disinfect before shipping the new batch of dogs in…
Hi Angie, thanks for the concern too. My brother brought her to a vet early in the morning and the vet did a test on her and said it is parvo virus. They advised us to discuss with our pet shop and the pet shop was rather composed and told us to bring her back to the pet shop immediately. We bought from Wellfond (also at Pasir Ris Farmway 2) and they said she doesn’t really look like she has parvo because she did not look lethargic enough to be deemed as lethargic. We are just keeping our fingers crossed now as she is now at the vet (Wellfond brought her to their trustworthy vet). I believe all costs will be paid for by them and they looked like they were sincerely trying to help. When we reached the pet shop, their car was already there, all ready to drive to the vet already. Sigh. Hope Kay Kay is in good hands. Seeing her suffer makes us really heartpain.
Anyway, she vomitted once, had a bit of bloody stools (looks a little like human’s diarrhoea stools), and not as responsive and active like when she first arrived. She had no appetite to eat her food but she did drink water…
Hope your brother’s dog is getting better.
I have read previously from blogs & forums to Never get a puppy from a pet farm in Spore, lots of horror stories about puppies dying early once they are brought home.
Google “do not buy pets from Pasir Ris pet farm” under Google blogs & you will see the horror stories, then go to the Google Web search results for forum posts on it.
The other safer alternative is to buy from a Sporean private owner whose adult dog has given birth to puppies & wants to sell them away. They usually live in landed property so can afford to let their dogs mate & then birth. They give the puppies to relatives, close friends & maybe a few are sold to outsiders. This type of sale by private owners will appear in the ST Classifieds section. Scan them from time to time & make an appointment to visit their homes to see the puppies.
This way, you can see the Mummy Dog & judge for yourself her health. Also see how the puppies are thriving in their natural home environment & whether good healthy genes are passed on to her puppies. Also, these pedigree dogs are acclimatized to Spore’s weather & can withstand the heat & humidity better than those freshly imported from overseas.
We could not stand the stress and called up the pet farm today to ask them what their vet’s opinion was. Apparantly, the vet thinks that Kay Kay does not have parvo virus and that she has regained appetite, no longer vomitting and no more diarrhoea. However she has slight flu and they are now feeding her with antibiotics. They are still awaiting the detailed tests results and the results will be out on Mon.
Yah we heard many horror stories about Pasir Ris pet farms. The one we went to was very trustworthy and reliable so far, at least they knew what to do and was willing to bear responsibility. We did try to buy a dog “online” but we met up with many sellers who were either not sincere or were fraudsters. My brother and I took turns to email the sellers and one of them was able to non-stop supply the same poodle, which was very suspicious because he couldn’t be so capable to “create” so many poodles for sale, somemore all the pictures he sent to the buyers were all the same.. Sigh. Moreover, we wanted a toy poodle because we read up about this dog breed and found it suitable for our requirements. Hard to find exactly what we want from online.
Thanks for your concern and suggestion. I am so happy that people are concerned about that small dog though you all haven’t witnessed how cute she is. I also did not know that I can be so emotional and worked up over a dog. Always knew my brother was a true dog-lover while I am always more passive, but this incident made me realise how fond I am of the puppy and wish she will not leave us so soon. In fact, elders were very against the idea of my brother rearing a dog, but after seeing her actions and face, they also grew attached to her within seconds/minutes and everyone started calling her “princess”. Hahaha.
I also wish Kay kay can recover and not have that virus. My facebook status actually states that I would rather she bite me, than to see her suffer. (I’m extremely scared each time she opens her mouth, like ready to bite me. Hahaha. So I am also learning to be more immune to her and learning to carry her now.)
My greatest wish currently, is that there can be a cure for dogs with canine parvo virus, or the dogs will suffer and then die off fast. It is torturous to the dogs, and their owners as well.
Glad to know Kay is doing better! But she looks heavily sedated in all yr photos. Preferably those private sellers with landed residential properties where you can see for yourself how the puppies get along will be the best finds. Preferably living with young family members like children below 12 years old. These are the types of families with maltese, shih tzus, poodles, you know the cute doggies.
But, you are rite in spotting fraudsters.
Chacha, yeah if yh and I ever get a dog, we will probably be aiming to search for one online first. In fact my brother has done that before in the past but could not find any, so he had to buy from the pet farm.
Kaykay seems to be back to normal again and the pet farm has collected her back from the vet. Phew, hopefully she is back to her normal active self. Haha.
Hi chacha, when Kay Kay was first brought back, we had huge problem trying to capture a nice picture of her because she fiddles a lot, especially when people move close to her cage. These pictures you have seen are taken either when she is tired or sick. I will try to take a footage of her and get it posted here to let everyone see how playful a girl she is!
Trust me all, Kay kay is a very bright and naughty dog.
I really will go out to promote the pet shop “WellFond”. Originally we wanted to adopt one from SPCA, but being the particular me, all I wanted was a poodle (claimed as 2nd smartest dog in the world).
So end up went to pasir ris. Have to admit I didnt know much about pet farms. ANyway, didnt regret the buy. Kay kay has been a very good doggy 🙂
